Mucopolysaccharidosis type I (MPS I) is a rare genetic disorder causing severe neurological diseases and shortened lifespan. Current treatments for this condition are either extremely expensive or have significant morbidity and mortality. The research group of Assistant Professor Li Ou (Pediatrics) is working to develop a safe and effective treatment for MPS 1.

The group received a grant from the UMII Updraft program to support deep sequencing research, the results of which will be used to support a proposal for NIH funding. This grant was awarded in 2020. Dr. Adam Herman, a member of MSI’s RIS staff, performs bioinformatics analyses in this project.
