Vitamin C is a well-known mitigator of oxidative stress as well as a necessary cofactor for collagen production in the setting of wound healing. Assistant Professor Amy Anne Lassig (Otolaryngology; MSI PI) is working on a project examining genome-wide methylation effects of vitamin C supplementation for mandibular fracture patients, both smokers and non-smokers.

Professor Lassig received funding from the UMII Updraft program to support data analyses by MS IRIS staff members on already completed DNA methylation assays. RIS is conducting all quality control of the methylation data (both EPIC array and capture), as well as downstream association testing. In addition, they are providing information on gene proximity for the methylation data. Data from this study will be used to support further grant applications
